2023: Boom of Tourists in Italy
2023 could be a record year for tourism in Italy. In fact, according to data collected, there could be a presence of as many as 212.8 million people in our country during the summer quarter, an increase of 6.2% compared to the summer of 2022. Tourists will primarily be foreigners coming mainly from the United States, Great Britain, and France. During the first four months of 2023, there have already been 12.7 million foreign tourists recorded. According to Istat and Eurostat data, during the period in question, accommodation facilities saw an increase of 90% in January and 73% in February. Tourists continue to prefer hotels, but there is also a strong increase in presence in agri-tourism and campsites.
For Italians, the local seas remain the preferred destination, even if 1 out of 3 Italians has made a reservation abroad. According to an analysis conducted by Coldiretti, 15.6 million Italians opted for a holiday in July with an increase of 1% compared to the same period last year. In addition to the seaside and mountain resorts, as well as cities known for art and culture, small villages and food and wine tours are much appreciated as another flagship of the Bel Paese.
Tourism is confirmed to be an engine of resurgence for Italy, especially if it is rethought and reread in a new perspective aimed at increasingly sustainable development.
