Singapore Science Centre presents future new headquarters
73,767 square meters, 5 floors and 40 meters high. These are the numbers of the future headquarters of the Singapore Science Centre, which from 2027 will be the new national reference point for STEM disciplines.
Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the building will rise in the Jurong Lake Gardens in Singapore, where users of the Science Centre can interact with nature. The structure will consist of five rectangular interlocking buildings, which seem to float on the water. They will host a series of exhibition galleries, interactive workshops and event spaces, as well as facilities such as offices and archives.
The project also implements strategies to reduce net carbon emissions. With the aim of obtaining the BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification, the structure will follow natural ventilation, controlled daylight, reduced energy consumption, photovoltaic and roof gardens insulating. Finally, through water management and landscaping, the restoration of native plant communities is promoted.
As stated by Lim Tit Meng, CEO of the Science Center Board, the ambition for the new Science Center is to be a rewarding destination for all ages and abilities and facilitate equal opportunities for all visitors.
