EXTRA 480
CNC milling for marble working
Marble processing, and also recently that of composite slabs, has reached levels of excellent quality thanks to the precision technology of numerically controlled cutters.
Marble processing, and also recently that of composite slabs, has reached levels of excellent quality thanks to the precision technology of numerically controlled cutters.
Italy plays a dominant role, not only because of its long history in the sector, but also because various Italian companies have innovated greatly within the sector, including GMM, which stands out for its ingenuity and precision. The company is located at the foot of the Candoglia quarries, famous for having provided the first blocks of pink marble (at the end of the 1300s) with which the construction of the Milan Cathedral began (which would become the largest church in Italy and the third in the world by surface). The new Extra 480 by GMM represents an important milestone in the technology of bridge milling machines by combining extreme ease-of-use with simple and intuitive programming, both for basic and more advanced processes, such as parametric programming, CAD cuts, contouring, profiling and shaping, making perforations, bas-reliefs, writing and more.
The design has enhanced these aspects by focusing primarily on the 370° swivel and 90° tiltable head, with 4 KW lateral spindles, which process the material with a vertical stroke of up to 480mm and, thanks to a GMM patent, can lift and move, facilitating and optimizing various work phases.
The use of appropriate materials for covering the mechanical parts gives the head of the new Extra 480 a strong and recognizable look, while at the same time allowing for easy maintenance. All the main structures of the machine are made from hot-dip galvanized steel.
Great attention was also paid to the interface area thanks to the design of a new innovative, ergonomic control panel with a 21” multi-touch LED screen, from which it is possible to program and control all operations. It is also equipped with a USB port, LAN connection and remote assistance system.
The machine’s new design has also emphasized lateral sliding safety barriers with transparent polycarbonate panels, with the added feature of a generous handle that enhances its uniqueness, facilitates opening and protects the operator during execution. Precise design choices have also been made on many mechanical parts, such as the hydraulic tilting bench in hot galvanized steel covered in PVC and side supports, which leave the support profiles totally exposed, protecting the mechanical parts only where necessary, while making the machine light and clean. The colors and graphics of the product enhance the modern characteristics of this new technical jewel.
